Power Flushing Central Heating Systems

Power flushing is a more efficient and quicker way of cleaning a central heating system. It consists of flushing through all the system using water (and usually a cleaning agent) at high velocity, but low pressure, so that no physical damage is caused to the system.

When installing new boilers in old central heating system it is important that all sludge is first removed from the system as it could accumulate in the new boiler.

In hard water areas old systems will have accumulated lime scale and corrosion deposits, which can affect the efficiency of the boiler. Power flushing will break up hardened deposits allowing them to be flushed away easily. This restore central heating systems to optimum efficiency.

How we Power Flush an existing central heating system.

The central heating pump is removed and the flushing unit connected between the pump valves. The unit has its own powerful pump. We add a cleaning solution and flush through the system. A Power Flush clean takes about a day from set-up to completion.

The cleaning and treating of central heating systems.

It is important when installing new boilers into old systems that all sludge is first removed from the system or this could accumulate in the new boiler and lead to premature failure. Additionally, in hard water areas existing systems will have accumulated limescale together with corrosion deposits in the heat exchanger, which could easily have reduced the boiler efficiency by over 5%.

All new systems should be pre-commission cleansed in accordance with BS:7593 and Benchmark. This ensures flux residues, excess jointing compounds, mineral oil and other contaminants that can be found in the system following installation, and that can affect the performance of the system or cause component failure, are removed.

What is power flushing?

Power flushing is the most efficient and effective method of cleansing a central heating system. The principle is to create a powerful fresh water flow under controlled conditions to remove debris from the system.

By connecting the power flushing unit to the heating circuit in place of the system pump, boiler or radiator the circuit can be thoroughly cleansed of lime scale and corrosion debris.

When used in conjunction with a Sentinal X400 system cleanser, a typical power flush can be completed in a day.
